and... done

The cake is complete. I think it turned out pretty darn cute for my novice attempt. I actually had a lot of fun doing it, it wasn't nearly as difficult as I anticipated, and I'm looking forward to trying more of these in the future. Some notes to self:
  • Covering and decorating a cake in Fondant is not something that should be done with long fingernails.
  • Remember to remove wedding rings before slathering up your hands with Crisco.
  • Hire someone else to come in and clean up after your big ol' messy mess.

Pics of course coming later today...

But first, while I clean up my house, try to salvage my kitchen where apparently a bomb went off, and then set up for the birthday party, here are the Friday questions:
What are you having for dinner tonight, what is your favorite smell, and have you ever been in an earthquake.

We are having pizza I think. It'll be a quick dinner on our way out to the ball game tonight.
I love summer smells; summer rain, fresh cut grass, chlorine, the beach.
I've been in two earthquakes... The Spring Break Quake in Portland when I was a junior in high school, and apparently I was in an earthquake this morning. The one in Portland woke me up; I remember hearing it, dried rosepetals were falling on me from the shelf above my bed, and when I looked up it seemed the wall was actually waving in a rolling motion. We all jumped out of bed and waited it out in our doorways. The quake damaged a high school and the state capitol building. I had bad dreams and an earthquake phobia for years after that.
The one felt here in St Louis early this morning, I slept right through. I didn't go to bed until after two this morning so I was out like a log at 4:3o. I'm glad I didn't feel it. I have to say that the earth shaking is one of the worst feelings ever. It woke my mom up, but the rest of us snored through it. Ryan just called a half hour ago and asked if we felt the aftershock... I didn't notice it, but he said they all felt it at work as it was a 4.5.
I don't think I could live in California, as I'm actually quite scared of earthquakes.

i'm not sure what we're having... max and i are going to my parents' house! :)

i also love the smell of chlorine... i love to swim and used to be on the swim team in junior high, it brings me back!

and, no earthquakes. here in duluth we're pretty safe from any sort of natural disasters... no earthquakes, tornados, hurricanes... the only thing we have to worry about is snow. ;)

John is at the store right now getting fresh mushrooms for beef strogonoff. He makes that very yummy!

I love the smells of a forest. Love it.

And you didn't ask, but I don't love the smell of wet dog. I smell that today.

I've never been in an earthquake. I doubt I'd like it, but I don't think I'd be super scared either.

I was very close to a lightning strike at Sunset Beach last year, though. It hit a home maybe a hundred yards away. The crack was very loud and I crouched down, scared to death. I had Gertie in my arms. We were racing off the beach. That was scary.

Everyone had to scrounge because I was on strike & had wine for dinner :)

I love the smells of Spring & a newly bloomed Hyacinth

Never felt the quake, but our dogs barked like fools @ 5:15/5:20 & I couldn't figure out why they were acting so wierd! Heard on the radio later & that answered that question :)

It woke me up in Kentucky and it freaked me the heck out! My parent's whole house was rattling and my kid was sleeping in his crib and I had NO CLUE what to do. I had no clue how long they lasted or anything. Not a cool experience! Your house is NOT supposed to move!
