pillow talk

I slept horribly last night. Tossed and turned, was hot then cold, got up at 4am to throw the cats down in the basement when they were running and thumping around the house too much, and in between all of that I had one long horrible continue after the breaks of sleep kind of dream.
Not sure why so many of my bad dreams lately involve someone chasing us in some way. Last night I dreamt we were on the run and staying in hotels and being totally anonymous and as soon as we were feeling settled somewhere we would catch wind of whoever was after us being close and we'd have to pick up quick and run again all panicked and leaving things behind. I always made sure we had the kids favorite blankets and I made sure I had my camera and the rest of everything else was just whatever we had time to grab. I don't know why we were running or who we were running from, but that panicky feeling was horrible. I think they were after Ryan...

Anyway, I didn't get much good sleep last night.
And now my neck is stiff and I have a headache. I think I need a new pillow.
I hate picking a new pillow. I don't know what's best for me... I like soft and fluffy, but I don't think that works well for my neck. I'm not sure if I want firm or feather or what other of the three hundred choices out there.
Which brings me to this interesting find... I came across a random blog the other day and noticed this picture of the pillow she uses and was completely intrigued. Over the last couple of years I've had more problems with shoulder and neck aches, as well as headaches at the base of my head from what I assume to be poor posture and sleeping positions. I did a little rooting around and it seems many people swear by the comfort and benefits of using a porcelain pillow. Of course there's a lot of Chinese culture and tradition in using pillows made of stone, porcelain and wood.
It's definately intriguing.... I'm not sure I could sleep on porcelain though. And from what I've seen they'll run you a couple of hundred dollars, so I'm probably not going to try one of those out anytime soon.

So Friday question time...
Do you have favorite sleep position? Are you a tummy sleeper? a curled up side sleeper? a flat on your back snoring sleeper?
Do you like your pillow firm? fluffy? tempur-pedic? porcelain? Have you found that perfect pillow? And if you have, tell me where to find it... :)

i just posted about this on my blog the other day. i am SO SORE every morning when i sleep. i sleep in the fetal position mostly because my back is just not comfortable and sleeping on my stomach is hard on my back. i like my pillow fluffy but sort of flat... and sometimes i skip the pillow. TGIF!

oh my gosh. this is SO weird you posted this because this morning when i woke up i realized i was having this seriously odd dream about YOU and KASEY. HAHAHA. i don't know where that came from, maybe i was thinking about chicago? i think nicole might have been in the dream too. i don't really remember what it was about but it was unsettling. it was just strange since i have never even met you, i must have known you guys from your pictures... haha!

i sleep on my side and i like a firm pillow. generally i sleep well and am a very hard sleeper... except when you and kasey are invading my dreams... LOL :)

I wake up sore every night and my neck and shoulders especially kill me. I have never heard of a porcelain pillow....I would have to try that and see what it is like! Doesn't sound comfortable to sleep on something hard, but ya never know until you try, right?

I am like you, Heather. I need a new pillow. Kevin teases me about going through so many pillows. My neck hurts all the time. Most mornings I wake up feeling as though I hardly slept. I have tried all kinds of pillows, and so far I haven't found something I like.

They are after the secret formula in Viagra :) I am sorry Heather! I had to do that.. Too much migraine meds, I have been up since 4:00 blogging & dealing with a terrible headache, from bad sleep habits no less! I hate the unsettling feeling of bad dreams!
I am mostly a scrunched up fetal position side-sleeper. I need to find a wonder pillow! One that is slightly firm, won't break down too quickly & doesn't cost $150.00. I really liked the feel of the Tempur-pedic pillows, but again, the price-yikes!! I wake about 3-4 mornings a week with headaches that could border to a migraine. A body pillow that is firm is a must also & again the TP has one & is again $150!

Hi! Thanks for visiting my blog and mentioning it in your own post.

I know the porcelain sounds really hard. There is also a fabric version of this pillow. I'm not sure what its stuffed with but its still rectangular and extremely firm (without any 'give').

These may be harder to find in the US but maybe on ebay?

I have the same problem- stiff, sore neck from sleeping. I visit a chiropractor every 6-8 weeks for a maintenance adjustment (which helps), and I also use a special pillow called Tri-Core. It has this weird indentation in the middle, but is bolstered at your neck for support. It took awhile to get used to it, but now I won't sleep on anything but that pillow!
