family room

So I never got pics of SJ's room taken before she went to bed tonight. So how 'bout if I show you the family room instead? Living room, family room... not sure what we're calling it yet exactly. Technically it was the family room, as the formal Living Room is off of the front entryway. That Living Room was previously converted into a bedroom with closets, built-ins, and french doors, and that is the room that we use for a playroom. So this family room, off of the kitchen, is our only main level living room. And here it is...We have painted (and looking at these pictures, I realize in the photos it looks like the walls are two different colors, but they're not... they're the same) and bought these shelves to go on either side of our armoire. We're hopefully going to tile over the brick on the fireplace someday soon. This weekend our project is to (gulp) stain the armoire to try and match the shelves. I gulp because I'm nervous about it. I'm terrified of it not turning out right and ruining it. But we couldn't find anything to match the armoire we had and it looks ridiculous the way they are together. I need to accumulate a few more knick knacks, throw pillows and such; get some color into the room. I also need to get something bigger (bigger vase/willow/plant/something like that) for the corner by the TV. This room was a little hard for me to arrange... what do you think? I think we don't quite have enough furniture for the size of the room. Also, with the big windows, the fireplace, the half wall and situating the TV, I wasn't sure what the best configuration was.
And this is my problem wall.
Well, it's not so much of a problem I guess, as I just haven't figured it out yet. This is where I want to hang some framed pics. A variety of sizes, with some bigger ones thrown in there. The furniture is not quite centered on the wall, because if it were, it would be too far away from the couches. But I'm afraid by hanging frames up there, centered over the shelves, it may draw attention to it being not centered on the wall. Anyway, so what do you think? Black frames all symmetrical, or all different frames all different sizes and positions? Like I said, I'm just at a loss of where to start. And do you think color prints are okay, or should I stick with all b/w's since I have the collage frame I'm doing all b/w next to that wall? See?? I'm no good at this...
