where were you

Saw this first at Kasey’s blog and thought it was interesting…

Where were you???

Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster - January 28, 1986
I was in the 4th grade and I think our class was actually watching it live on a television in our room. Of course it was an event the schools were making a big deal about because there was to be a teacher on board that mission. I just remember everyone being so shocked and confused... I know not much got done that day after that.

The Oklahoma City Bombing - April 19, 1995
I really don't remember much about this day. It was the year after I graduated high school and I was nannying and don't even really remember hearing about it until maybe that evening. I didn't have a tv and don't remember talking much about it. I was kind of in my own little world in those days....

Princess Diana’s Death - August 31, 1997

I remember being out with my boyfriend and returning home to his parents house and they had the news on about this. I just remember everyone was in shock and glued to the tv waiting to hear more about it... what happened, why. I remember watching coverage forever, just because it was on. I was fascinated by this story... finding out how it happened, the hours leading up to the accident, the horrendous role the paparazzi played in all of it. And I vowed never to buy a celebrity gossip magazine again.

Attack on the Twin Towers - September 11, 2001
Of course, this is the “where were you when JFK was shot?” moment of our generation. I remember that day so vividly. I had spent the night at Ryan's house (yes, before we were married!) and came downstairs to find his roommate glued to the tv with the two smoldering towers. They were still standing at that point. I left for work and that was of course the only thing on every radio station in the car... I think the first building collapsed while I was driving. I remember pulling over and listening as the radio personalities were so shocked and flabbergasted watching on tv and relaying it for those of us listening. There was still much speculation of whether it was bombs and new talk of planes actually flying into the buildings. I got to work and they too were glued to the tv's and we just sat and watched it all morning. For days, really.

Space Shuttle Columbia Disaster - February 1, 2003

Ryan and I were at our family's beach house when we saw the news on CNN. I remember my heart sunk when I heard it, unable to imagine what it was like for all the families involved. I also remember talking about the Challenger and all the memories that brought up. I was 7 months pregnant with Savannah.

So, where were you at these historic moments in time?
Feel free to answer in the comments or use this for your blog, too…just leave me a comment that you’ve done that so I can read your answers and how these events are etched in your memory.

From your comment on my post, I was 7 when the Challenger exploded, so I might have been in 2nd grade, but for some reason, think I was in third. Weird!
